My Background
I am a professional artist who lives in St. John's Newfoundland & Labrador.
I began showing my work in commercial galleries in 1980.
I am essentially self taught, though by the late 1980's until 1990 I taught life drawing and portrait for Memorial University of Newfoundland Extension Services.
My work is represented by the Emma Butler Galler

My Background
I use different mediums, such as watercolour, acrylic and oil paints. I tend to move freely between mediums but I do not mix media in any one piece. I enjoy the purity of each of these separate media on their own terms.
Although it may change suddenly my current favoured medium is Oil paint which it seems to me is better suited to work

Although it may change suddenly my current favoured medium is Oil paint which it seems to me is better suited to work en plein air. Perhaps its only me but in my home environment with its frequent high wind or light breezes, water based media has a tendency to dry too quickly to satisfy my needs.

I continue to be obsessed by the rugged terrain of the Newfoundland coastal landscape. It holds a mysterious beauty which calls to me in its various moods.
